Frequently asked questions

Can't I just turn it off?

Yes, you can. iOS always lets you turn off Halto's blocking permission in Settings or delete the app. Halto is a self-control tool, not a security product, so it doesn't try to stop that or hide it. What it adds is strict mode (Pro): ordinary unlocks are switched off and one emergency unlock a day is left. While strict mode is blocking, that profile can't be edited, switched off or deleted, and Reset all data waits until the block ends. Once the emergency unlock is used, the block stands until the schedule ends.

How do I open an app when I really need it?

Tap “I need it” on the shield and Halto sends a notification. Tap it to open the pause: breathe for 15 seconds, pick a reason, and the app opens for 5 minutes. You get three unlocks a day by default; the pause, the unlock length and the daily count can be changed in Settings › Unlock defaults.

Nothing happens when I tap “I need it”.

With notifications off, the shield can't bring you to the pause. Open Halto yourself and tap “I need it” on the profile on Home, or turn on Halto's notifications in iOS Settings.

What happens if I turn off the blocking permission?

Every shield comes down immediately and Home shows that nothing is being enforced. Your profiles and history stay, so you can pick up where you left off once you allow it again.

Do blocks start and end exactly on time?

Not to the second. iOS wakes Halto when the device is in use, so a block or an unlock can be a little late. The shield comes back when an unlock ends, though it can take a little longer if your iPhone is asleep.

My schedule won't save.

iOS needs a schedule of at least 15 minutes. Check that at least one day is picked and that start and end aren't the same; to block the whole day, turn on All day. iOS also limits how many blocks can run at once, so if you can't add one, turn another off first.

Can I manage my child's iPhone?

No. Halto is for blocking your own apps on your own iPhone. It has no parent-side or child-monitoring features.

How does the free trial work?

The yearly plan comes with a 2-week free trial for eligible new subscribers. If you want, Halto reminds you once, 24 hours before the charge (only if notifications are allowed). Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you won't be charged.

How do I cancel?

In Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions, or from Manage subscription inside the app, at any time. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.

I bought Lifetime, but my subscription is still charging.

Buying Lifetime doesn't cancel an existing subscription. So you aren't charged twice, cancel it from Manage subscription in the app or in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions.

Can I use Pro on a new iPhone?

Yes, with the same Apple Account. In Halto, go to Settings › Plan and tap Restore purchases.

How do I delete all my data?

In Halto, Settings › Reset all data removes your profiles, your unlock history and every shield. It can't be undone, and while strict mode is blocking it waits until the block ends. Deleting the app removes everything too.
